Best Electric Wine Opener

electric wine opener

Drinking wine has risen so much in popularity that we wanted to research to find the best electric wine opener that will keep our parties hassle free.  Forget the mess of manually dealing with foil tops and a corkscrew and move on to an electric wine opener.  After all our testing, our top pick is the newly redesigned and affordable Ozeri Nouveaux II Electric Wine Opener.

Table of Contents

Best Overall: Ozeri Nouveaux II

The Ozeri Nouveaux II is the newly-improved electric wine opener from Ozeri.  Ozeri worked out the kinks of the already popular Ozeri Nouveaux to bring us this even-better option. This most recent model offers a newly-designed motor that can open up to 60 wine bottles on a single charge as well as a patent pending, integrated foil cutter, and a completely cordless, European-inspired, ergonomic design.

We found this model to be everything we were looking for: it’s fashionable, made of high-quality materials, and works effortlessly, all at an affordable price. Additionally, it required the least amount of pressure to remove corks, making this model the best of those we tested for those with arthritis or any other hand/arm constraints. With over 1,300 positive reviews, we expected to be happy with this model, and we were.  In fact, we voted it our Best Overall Electric Wine Opener.

Runner Up: Vremi Electric Wine Opener

The Vremi is a great product for the price!  This Vremi Electric Wine Opener (also known as the Mr. Electric) comes with a Wine Pourer and Foil Cutter. We were able to use this unit straight out of the box even though the directions suggest charging it for 10 hours before use.  I guess we were lucky that ours was still holding a bit of a charge.  You’ll know it’s ready because the red LED light will turn green when ready to use.

Once charged, this opener can uncork up to 30 bottles of wine before needing to be recharged. It is a sleek and stylish design that will look great in your kitchen.  The opener itself has a comfortable grip, and we loved the bonus wine pourer that we received. In the box, you will receive 1 Charging Base, 1 Power Adapter, 1 Foil Cutter, 1 Wine Pourer.

How to Use an Electric Wine Opener

It’s safe to say that before using any electrical accessory or appliance, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including using it only for its intended use and never submerging it in water.

We knew how to use various types of wine openers, but had never before used an electric style.  Right out of the box you will most likely need to charge your wine opener a bit.  Plug one end of the cord into the unit (either the charging base or the unit itself if it doesn’t have a base) and the other end into the wall.  Be aware that it can take up to a few hours (some of the models we tested even said up to ten hours!) for your wine opener to build up enough charge to open a bottle of wine.

Operating the Wine Opener

  1. First, you will need to remove the foil at the top of the bottle to expose the cork. Depending on the model of opener you are using, it might come with its own foil opener.  With other models, you will have to remove the foil using your own method.
  2. Place the wine opener on the top of the bottle as straight and upright as possible. If you hold it at an angle, it may not properly remove the cork which could then become stuck in the opener.
  3. Activate the electric opener by either pushing it down onto the top of the bottle or pushing a button (depending on your model). When activated, the mechanism will spin the corkscrew down into the cork. As the corkscrew spins deeper into the cork, it will start to pull the cork up and out of the bottle. The mechanism should stop on its own when the cork is fully removed.
  4. Remove the wine opener from the bottle and eject the cork by pressing the button that releases (unscrews) the corkscrew from the cork. The cork should fall right out of the opener.
  5. Voila! You’re done.  You can now enjoy your glass of wine.

How We Selected

wine opener reviews
Did you know that there are over 900 Electric Wine Bottle Openers to choose from online? We wanted to test five models to see how they compared and needed to whittle away hundreds of extra choices.

We wanted to be sure that past customers were happy with the products they were using so we extensively read pages and pages of online reviews.  After eliminating the product choices with fewer than four out of five stars, we ended up with 198 Electric Wine Bottle Openers in the running. Whew!  That eliminated approximately 80 percent of our options by applying this one criterion, but we still had to work on finding our top five contenders.

Many of the 198 options were priced higher than $30, but we felt confident that we could find five to test under that price.  We eliminated these higher priced models and now found only 68 in our list from which to choose.

Next, we turned to other sites such as WineEnthusiast.com, FoodandWine.com, and KitchenandCompany.com to see what they felt was the perfect Electric Wine Opener.  After scouring these pages and taking their suggestions into consideration, we had our five top contenders to test.

How We Tested

how we tested wine openers
Yep, we drank just a wee bit of wine during all these testing hours.  But, we stuck to our task of testing and wanted to be sure in our choice of which of these five units was the easiest and simplest to use.  We also wanted to be sure that we chose a durable model for our top pick, one that will last you well into the future.

Each of the Electric Wine Openers that we tested came with a foil cutter. We tested each to be sure they were razor sharp and cut with ease.  There is no use having one included if it doesn’t work well.  We were happy with each and every one of the foil cutters we tested.

Next, we wanted to test how easily the opener could remove the cork.  Of course, this was the most important task to test.  Ultimately, we wanted to test and see if each opener could get the job done using one hand while holding the bottle steady between our legs.  Not that we would need to do this often, but being able to open a bottle this way could be helpful for those with arthritis or other hand/arm constraints.  Busy cooks might also need to use the one-hand opening method every once in a while, when they’re multitasking other projects in the kitchen.

Ozeri Nouveaux II Electric Wine Opener

The Ozeri Nouveaux II Electric Wine Opener introduces a new design of electric wine opener that allows it to stand on its own without using a separate base or stand. It is designed both for home and restaurant use and can remove a wine bottle cork with one simple push of a button. One of the features that we really liked was the clear corkscrew neck that allowed us to watch the cork being removed.   This helped us avoid getting the cork stuck which is the biggest issue with any wine opener.  While being charged, it emits a soft blue indicator light from the clear shell. This opener is completely cordless and easily opens both natural and synthetic corks. In the box, you will receive 1 Electric Wine Opener (choice of Black, Silver, or Red) and 1 Wine Pourer/Stopper

Vremi Electric Wine Opener Set

We were very impressed with the Vremi Electric Wine Opener as well as the extra accessories it came with – a separate foil cutter and a wine pourer. The sleek design was very eye-catching on our countertop, and we received many compliments on it. It’s very simple to use, just press and hold down the bottom of the silver button to start the corkscrew moving clockwise to remove the cork.  When it stops turning, remove Mr. Electric from the bottle and press the top of the silver button to release the cork. Simple! Mr. Electric is made for use with all standard-sized wine corks, including plastic and synthetic. When you’re finished, just wipe clean with a damp cloth, and replace it on the charging dock.

SimpleTaste Stainless Steel

The sleekly-designed SimpleTaste Electric Wine Opener is a stylish accessory that will complement any kitchen. Although it isn’t the strongest of our choices, it does the job well, especially if you’ll only be opening two or three bottles of wine per charge. It’s geared low, for optimum power versus speed, so it’s also not the fastest opener that we tested. Ours arrived with a bit of a pre-charge, but it definitely needed to be charged a bit more before we could really use it.  When fully charged, this opener can open 30 bottles on one charge – just press the Pull and then the Release buttons for each bottle. This unit comes with a portable foil cutter which stores nicely on the back of the charging base.

Secura Stainless Steel

The Secura Stainless Steel Electric Wine Opener sports a sleek design with an elegant charging base and a transparent shell covering the corkscrew. This model can open 30 bottles of wine on a single charge and includes a built-in, rechargeable battery as well as a foil cutter to help remove seals. It offers an easy-to-use, push-button design that operates the corkscrew and removes the cork in seconds. We found that this wine opener fits comfortably in your hand and it was easy to push the button and activate the corkscrew. The foil cutter is razor sharp, and you should have no problems at all opening the foil cover and removing the cork with this opener set. With this set, you will receive 1 Wine Opener, 1 Charging Base, and 1 Foil Cutter.

Oster Cordless

The Oster Cordless Electric Wine Opener is a perfectly-designed compact unit the easily opens wine with a simple push of a button. It is designed to fit traditional sized wine bottles and offers fast, effortless results in seconds. Ultimately, this means more time for you to spend with friends, sipping wine, and catching up. This wine opener measures 2 ¼ inches across by 10 ¾ inches tall and offers a soft-grip handle that ergonomically fits in the palm of your hand. We love that it has a small footprint on our countertop and the straight up-and-down design means more space there for other appliances. This unit is available in three color choices, Merlot (red), Champagne Finish, or Silver (shown here). A full charge of this unit can open up to 30 bottles of wine with ease. In the box, you will receive 1 Base Charging Unit, 1 Wine Opener, 1 Foil Cutter (that stores easily on the back of the Base Charging Unit). One notable feature about the Oster brand it that for only about $10 more they offer this same Electric Wine Opener with a chiller-bottle.  This is a great option if you like white wines which are best served cold.

What We Liked

  • Our favorite feature of all the units we tested was the redesigned motor of the Ozeri Nouveaux II. This model is now able to open to 60 bottles of wine with one charge.  This means you won’t find your Electric Wine Opener with a dead battery if you forget to throw it back on its charging base during a party.
  • The Ozeri Noveaux II also needed the least amount of pressure to release the cork. This made it the best choice of all those we tested for those with arthritis or any other hand/arm constraints.
  • We liked how 4 out of the 5 models we tested all had clear plastic around the cork. We liked that we could see the cork being removed from the wine bottle and could also see it being discarded.  This was just a little bit of extra assurance that we were using it properly.

What We Didn’t Like

  • We didn’t like how the SimpleTaste Stainless Steel Wine Opener stores in its charger on a slant. Although it looked stylish, it made it harder to store on our countertop and took up more space than a vertical design.
  • The Oster was the only model we tested that didn’t have a clear bottom which meant we weren’t able to see the cork. This meant we had to do a bit of guessing to be sure the cork was both removed and released.  This wasn’t too big of a deal though, and the opener still did its job.
  • We personally didn’t like the blue light that emitted from the Secura Stainless Steel Electric Wine Opener. It stood out too much in our countertop, and we found ourselves wishing it was just a simple, white light.  We realize this is just personal opinion and another user might light the blue light just fine.

Conclusion

Electric Wine Openers come in many shapes and sizes, and with a wide array of battery-life options and colors to choose from.  It’s best to start by deciding how long you need the battery to last and go from there….do you need to open three bottles of wine per charge or thirty+ bottles?

Our Best Overall choice, the Ozeri Nouveaux II Electric Wine Opener, has a newly designed motor that can handle up to 60 bottles on one charge!  We found this model easy-to-use and efficient – all while being listed at a very affordable price.  We’re sure you won’t go wrong having this impressive accessory in your kitchen. You’ll be the hit of the party!
