Controlling ReadPlease

There are many ways of controlling how ReadPlease reads text.  
 
VCR Controls (Play/Pause etc.)
The easiest way to control ReadPlease is using the large VCR-like buttons located on the left side of ReadPlease's screen. See Quick Reference for VCR controls in ReadPlease.  
 
Right-click options  
As with any good Windows program, ReadPlease allows you to save time by using right-click.

HotKeys
Several hotkeys are available if you want to control ReadPlease with your keyboard.  
 
One way to control ReadPlease with the keyboard is to press the [Alt] key followed by the letter of a menu. For example:  
   [Alt]-C  
will bring up the menu Control as shown here:

then, you may press the letter P for Play, or a for Pause.  
 
You may already be used to hotkeys using the [Alt] key, for example you can Exit nearly all Windows programs by press [Alt] - F - x, which is the same as selecting the File menu, then the Exit choice.  
 
Hotkeys are available in ReadPlease PLUS  
 
· Play  
    [Ctrl] [Space]*  
   * and sometimes just [Space] if you are not in the document  
· Pause  
    [Ctrl] [Space]*  
    * and sometimes just [Space] if you are not in the document  
· Stop  
    [Esc]  
· Fast Forward  
    [Right cursor key]  
· Fast Backward  
    [Left cursor key]  
· Speed up voice  
    [Up cursor key]  
· Slow down voice  
    [Down cursor key]  
· Dock / UnDock  
    [Ctrl] - [Alt] - D  

 
 
System Tray Controls
If you have set the option to make ReadPlease minimize to the Windows System Tray (setting may be found in Tools|Options Appearance ) then you will be able to control ReadPlease by right-clicking on the ReadPlease icon. Using the System tray controls, you do not need to have ReadPlease displayed. It will be hidden but will continue to read for you.  
 
To display ReadPlease (or restore it to the screen), simply left-click on the icon in the system tray.

Right-click on the small ReadPlease icon in your System Tray to view a list of controls as shown below. Many users control ReadPlease from the System Tray and rarely see the ReadPlease interface.

Adjusting Speed of Reading  
The speed of the voice may be easily controlled by adjusting the red speed adjuster slider as shown below.

Adjusting Font Size  
The size of the font may be adjusted by moving the green slider with your mouse as shown above.  
 
Changing Voice  
You have a choice of Mary, Mike, Sam and Marilyn reading to you (or any other voices which you have installed and that ReadPlease supports. You may change the voice by clicking on either of the two small green arrows below the picture.

If you have installed any of the AT&T's Natural Voices you will see a large text indicator below the green arrows.

You may change the picture of the speakers. To do this go to Tools|Options, then Voice - Pictures.
